Why to buy a laptop

Portability

  • Laptops are designed to be portable. As such, they can be used where desktop computers cannot go. This is why laptops are ideal for temporary locations such as airplanes, bus stations or any other place that is merely en route to a destination. Additionally, a laptop can easily be taken to a library or hall for academic or research purposes.

Power Efficiency

  • Laptops typically use between 20 to 90 watts of power. Most desktops, on the other hand, will use between 100 and 800 watts of power. A laptop can be beneficial to those who are conscientious about conserving energy.

Batteries

  • Laptops are easily able to run independently on a charged battery for several hours. Running on a battery means a laptop can avoid losing information or being damaged due to a sudden power outage or surge.

Space

  • Desktop computers often feature separate space-occupying components, most notable of which are the hard drive case and monitor. While many desktop models feature space-saving technology (like the iMac G4, for instance), laptops are self-contained and can fold into a smaller size for easy stowage.

Wi-Fi

  • Many businesses and campuses offer wireless network services. This is ideal for a mobile laptop seeking an Internet or local network connection. A stationary computer, on the other hand, must have its connectivity set up by its user.

Transporting Data

  • In lieu of a network connection (or in cases where data is too large to efficiently send through a network), laptops can be useful tools to transport information from one source to another. Laptops can easily connect with other types of computers and, if need be, can act as a go-between to carry data from one computer to another.
